Thank you for choosing to participate in the Alberta Debtor Support project by volunteering with Pro Bono Law Alberta! Your contributions to our programs will facilitate access to justice and provide support for Albertans during these challenging and uncertain times.

PBLA is a non-profit charitable organization that promotes access to justice in Alberta by creating and promoting opportunities for lawyers to provide pro bono legal services to persons of limited means. We are not a direct provider of pro bono services to the public, but facilitate the provision of free legal services through partnerships with the legal community and other pro bono and justice serving organizations.

Here are two opportunities that provide an avenue for you to assist self-represented litigants with legal issues related to consumer debt and other matters.

Provides brief legal assistance to self-represented litigants with civil matters in Provincial Court in Calgary and Edmonton.

Volunteer lawyers and articling students (when permitted by their principal) provide legal advice, information on court procedures, help preparing for trials, motions and other appearances, and help completing forms on a first-come, first-served basis.

Provides assistance to self-represented litigants with civil matters at the Court of Queen’s Bench in Calgary and Edmonton.

Volunteer lawyers and articling students (when permitted by their principal) act as amicus curiae in morning chambers and assist self-represented litigants appearing in civil Masters and Justice Chambers.

Additionally, volunteers provide summary legal advice, assistance with document preparation, education on court processes and procedures and onward referrals at an afternoon clinic.

Looking for something different? PBLA has other volunteer opportunities, including a roster program that supports non-profits and charities. We can tailor your volunteer experience to match your pro bono interests. Find out more here.

Volunteering promotes professional development, networking opportunities and the personal satisfaction of making a difference. We are so grateful for your disposition to share your time and expertise for the benefit of those who cannot afford legal services.
