Since 2007, PBLA has grown to administer court-based programs in Calgary and Edmonton, to broker partnerships between law firms and organizations in Alberta to provide regular legal clinics for those in need, and to support the work of legal clinics providing pro bono services around Alberta.

During the first three quarters of the fiscal year 2022-2023, client uptakes were relatively low. However, the data from the final quarter highlights a significant increase in client uptakes when we resumed delivering in-person programming at the Calgary and Edmonton Courthouses on January 9, 2023.

For example, 42% of the individuals we assisted through the CCDC program during the fiscal year were accounted for in the final quarter. This highlights the notable surge in client engagement once we transitioned to a hybrid format.

Similarly, in the KB Amicus Program, we assisted 62% of our self-represented litigants during the final quarter. These findings clearly demonstrate the advantages and effectiveness of delivering programs in person, aligning with established traditional practices.
